Dugdale's Visitation of Yorkshire, with Additions, Clay, records "These armes were granted to Francis Shilleto, of Houghton in com. Ebor on 24 January 1602. by Sir Will'm Dethick, Garter King of Arms and that at Yorke on 13 Aug 1666 the custody of the Arms and Crest of his grandfather Francis Shellito of Houghton was granted to "Edward Shilleto of the Citty of York."

Arms :- Or, a chevron engrailed between ten cross crosslets Sable.

Crest :- A greyhound's head party per fess Or and Sable, charged with a cross crosslet counterchanged.

The confirmation of the arms and crest (Surtees Society, vol 4) describes Francis Shelleto as a a descendant "of the family of Shelleto of Medley," the arms of that family having "been many yeares past registered and recorded".

The second Coat of Arms, has been used by several families including Francis Shelleto of Heath in the 17th Century and his son George Shillitoe of Heath and Seacroft Hall. Upon marriage George Shillitoe of Heath impaled the Bulkeley family arms on his.

Arms:- Ar., on a fesse between three cock's heads erased Sable, crested, jelloped and beaked Or. a mitre of the third.

Crest:- a cock's head erased Sable, crested, jelloped and beaked Or.

Gervas Shillito of Pontefract had for his seal a cock's head (Mayor of Pontefract 1644/5)

How Shillito of London came to use the following coat of arms is unclear. In his "Visitation of Yorkshire" Sir William Dugdale, Norroy King of Arms, confirms this Coat of Arms on 8 Aug 1665 at Pontefract granted as per the Visitation in 1612 to the Hippon family of New Hall, Featherstone.

Arms :- Az., in cheif a key between two fleur-de-lys in base a fleur-de-lys between two keys wards upward Or.

Sillitoe, Formerly of Fordhall (4)

This Coat of Arms, granted by the College of Arms, London, 30 October 1812 and 6 May 1938 is recorded in Burke's "Landed Gentry", 1844, the pedigree begins with John Selito of Newport, Salop, bapt. 1615.

Arms:- Paly of six Gu. and Ar.,on a chief Erm. four crescents of the first.

Crest:- a roundel paly of six Gu. and Ar. charged with an anchor cabled Sa.

Motto:- "Selito Teneto Si Leto"

There is a similar coat of arms to (1) on which the chevron is not engrailed to be found in Burke's "The Armoury", 1844, which has for a crest:-

A lion rampant Ar, ducal crown Or, in Flames of Fire purp.
